Auto Crash: Gov. Diri Appreciates Delta Gov't, ASH Mgt For Quick Response ...As He Visits Survivors At ASH

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri visited the Survivors of Kwale-Asaba auto crash at the Asaba Specialist Hospital, Asaba Delta State on Monday, 19th June, 2023.

Gov. Diri appreciated the Delta State Government and management of Asaba Specialist Hospital for the prompt response and adequate medical attention given to the victims of the unfortunate incident.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy,  His Excellency Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, appreciated his Delta State counterpart, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for his show of love and brotherliness, in ensuring that the Hospital provides the victims utmost medical care.

Lauding the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Asaba Specialist Hospital, Dr. (Mrs) Peace Ighosewe, Gov Diri commended the management and staff of the medical facility for the level of professionalism and commitment to duties. 

The Governor who was pleased with the speed at which the patients recuperated to treatment, hailed the CMD and her team of doctors & nurses for their dedication, collaboration, cooperation and most especially the cleanliness of the Hospital.

Expressing his sadness over the lost of the four promising lives to the unfortunate incident, the Governor was however consoled that God saved the lives of the seven other persons on board. He noted that the tragedy would have been worse if the State had lost every Fan of the Bayelsa Queens on board.

His words:"First of all we want to give God all the glory, for he's the giver of life. While we groan and deeply saddened by the death of the four others involved in the accident, our spirits are lifted for the lives of the seven (7) other survivors. It would have been worse if we lost all the 12 persons on board on that fateful day.

"We are thankful to God that these ones are alive.

"We want to express our profound appreciation to the Government of Delta State, especially His Excellency the Governor for the prompt response. 

"He actually shown that he's a brother indeed. He appreciate him.

"I want to thank the Hospital Management, particularly the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital for the care and adequate medical attention given to the patients.

"Are amazed at the recovery rate of the patients, especially the one that sustained the spinal cord injury. 

"We are pleased with the high level of professionalism, neatness and commitment to duty displayed by the staff of the medical facility. So I want to commend the CMD and her team, especially the Surgeon who operated on our patient.

"The patients are doing well, five of them will be discharge today. The five of them will join us back to Bayelsa State.

"Once again I want to thank the people of Delta State, especially the Community where accident occurred, for the swift responses to the victims.

"I also want to thank the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development who has bore the highest burden of the unfortunate accident. He was an eyewitness, and it's really excruciating, when things of that nature happen in one's presence."

Recalled that, Supporters of Bayelsa Queens FC were involved in an auto crash along Kwale-Asaba Road on 11th June, 2023. The accident claimed four lives, leaving others severely injured.

Those who joined the Deputy Governor to visit the patients at the Hospital include, Hon. Ted Elemeforo, Deputy Chief Whip, Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. George Brah, Deputy Minority Chief Whip Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Living  Mitin, Member representing Ekeremor Constituency II, Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

Ekisah Sinkumo, Commissioner for Special Projects, Dr. Jonathan Robinson Obuebite, Former Chief Whip, Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Former Commissioner for Information and Education, Hon. Gesiye Isowu, PDP Secretary, Bayelsa State.




Hon. Nigeria Kia, Former Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Council, Hon. Bibian George, Director, Centre for Women Development, Ekeremor Constituency II, Hon. Ify Ify Simon Beredugo, Senior Special Assistant the Governor on Special Duties and Hon. Ashanti Bekeowei, Senior Special Assistant the Governor on Special Duties were also in his Excellency's entourage.
