PASSAGE OF PA ABRAHAM DIRI


With a deep feeling of loss, the Diri Family of Kalama-Owei Wari in Sampou Community in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State announces the sudden passage of our patriarch, Lay Reader Pa Abraham Michael Joseph Diri.


Pa Abraham Diri departed on Sunday, February 12 at the age of 88 years.

Pa Diri, a retired Headmaster, a devout Christian and a man of exemplary humility, is father of the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri.

The Diri family and indeed the entire Sampou community are consoled that our dear brother and father lived a fulfilled life.

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

Bayelsa: PDP receives more APC defectors from Nembe LGA.

The Bayelsa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the weekend, received another batch of defectors from the opposition  of the All Progressives Congress (APC) The decampees from Agrisaba in Nembe Local Government Area led by Comrade Ebinabo Jumbo, explained that their decision to leave the APC for the PDP was largely informed by Governor Diri's disposition towards the unity and development of the state. Comrade Jumbo noted that in less than two years in office, the prosperity administration under Governor Diri had shown genuine commitment to good governance through its people-oriented policies, programmes and development projects in an unbiased manner. Another reason for their defection to the PDP, according to Jumbo, is that it has become crystal clear to them that the APC has no direction and vision for Bayelsa. Bayelsa Govt. debunks rumors on ban of tricycles in Yenagao.

  The Bayelsa State government says it has no plan to ban tricycles popularly known as Keke from operating in Yenagoa the State capital and its environs. In a statement, the Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who debunked the  rumours making the rounds that it was planing to place ban on tricycles, described it as untrue. Ewhrudjakpo clarified that the recent meeting which government held with the various transport unions and the tricycle operators was mainly intended to brief them on security measures being taken to checkmate crimes being committed with tricycles. He further explained that part of the security measures include the registration of all Keke owners and riders with proper data capturing. According to the Deputy Governor, the new arrangement would provide every registered Keke in the state with a special security identification number that will make for easy tracking both at night and in the day time.
