Bayelsa: Diri Begins Inauguration of State Wide LG projects ... joins Yenagoa Mayor to inaugurate new City Council Secretariat
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Tuesday inaugurated a twenty-five room office pace and a one story administrative block at the Yenagao council secretariat, built by the Mayor of the council, Mr. Nimizuoa Uroupaye.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Diri said he was excited that Council Areas that once could not pay salaries were not only completing projects but have savings in their bank accounts.
He stated that the new order in the Local Government management made it possible for every Council to set aside five million naira monthly to offset outstanding payments.
The governor said as a result of State government non interference with councils administration, Local Government councils have succeeded in completing projects in various Wards.
While stressing that government would continue to advocate for councils autonomy, he assured the outgoing Chairmen and Councillors of the payment of their severance allowances.
Governor Diri, advised the outgoing chairmen not to make any employment at the zero hour saying anyone caught would be be sanctioned.
The governor hinted that since the inception of his administration, he has never meddle in the affairs or funds accrued to the councils, but rather supported the third tier of government with some stipends to enable them meet up their salary obligations.
"And now our Chairmen and Councillors are about to exit, you know we used to have backlogs of severance allowances but now this group of Chairmen and Councillors that are exiting, in Yenagoa Local Government Area, there is money already made available for their severance allowance payment.”
