NECO extends SSCC registration till June 20.
The National Examination Council on Monday announced that it has “extended the registration period of the 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination for candidates to Monday, June 20, 2022.”
The council made this known in a statement made available to Newsmen.
It was reported that the registration was initially scheduled to close on Monday May 30, 2022.
“The 2022 NECO Senior School Certificate Examination will commence on June 27, 2022 and end on Friday August 12. “Candidates are to be examined in 76 subjects during the examination,” the examination body noted.
Speaking in an interview with Newsmen, the spokesman for NECO, Azeez Sani, noted the reason for the extension.
He said, “We extended the registration deadline so that schools that have not registered will register their students. We do not plan to extend again.
“State Ministries of Education, Principals, Commandants and all stakeholders are enjoined to note that there would be no further extension after that.
Speaking in an interview, the proprietress, Bankys Private School, Abuja, Bankole Olusola, noted that schools already had a fixed timetable.
“We already have a fixed timetable. The students were meant to complete their WAEC and start NECO immediately. I only got to hear of the extension this morning.
“For us, the registrations went on fine; we completed the registrations without glitches. So it might be that some other schools had issues with registrations. But for me, as far as I am concerned, I do not know the reason for the extension.”
Another Abuja-based school owner, Peace Iheama of Capville Schools said, “Well, it is okay. There were people who did not start their registration on time. There were lots of deregistration at some point. For people in that category, it would not be fair for NECO to end registrations abruptly.”
