IGP decorates new DIGs, restates commitment to police reform.

 The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali-Baba, on Monday in Abuja decorated two newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House.

 

The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists.

 

The statement read, “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Baba, on Monday, May 30, 2022, decorated two newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police in his office at the Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

 

“This is coming on the heels of the recently released promotions by the Police Service Commission, in which the two officers’ recommendation by the IGP was approved by the commission.”

 

The statement added, “The Inspector-General of Police has charged the senior officers and others who have just been promoted, on quality delivery of policing services to members of the public while ensuring full compliance with the police reform agenda of the President.

 

“He further charged the DIG Operations with improving ICT-based operational activities while the DIG Research and Planning was tasked to focus on engendering professional planning for improved policing in Nigeria.”

 

Bayelsa Daily online gathered that the PSC had esrlier on May 16 announced the promotion of senior police officers to their next ranks.

 

During the course of the event, John Amadi, who was formerly an acting-DIG, was confirmed as substantive Deputy Inspector General of Police; while the commission approved the appointment of Zama Bala-Senchi as Deputy Inspector General of Police.

Other decisions taken by the commission at the plenary were the promotion of 57 Superintendents of Police earlier skipped when their mates were promoted to the next rank of chief superintendents.

 

Other categories of superintendents of police such as the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, Course 4, Inspectors Course 37 and regular ASP’s course 25 and 26 were also promoted to chief superintendents having met established requirements.

 

The PSC promoted 1,698 Assistant Superintendents of Police to Deputy Superintendents of Police. 6,119 inspectors who attended the recent Departmental Selection Board were promoted to ASP II while 1,965 ASP II were confirmed ASPs.

 

Eight Commissioners of Police namely; ex-EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu, who is the most senior in the CP cadre and who missed the last two promotions after returning to the Police, Abraham Ayim, Okunlola Kamaldeen, Andrew Amieengheme, Akeera Younous, Celestine Elumelu, Ngozi Onadeko and Danladi Lalas (Airwing), were promoted as AIGs.
