Gov. Diri tasks leaders on humility, advises Nigerians to rally round PDP for 2023


Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has advised Political leaders occupying sensitive positions in the country to demonstrate humility by accepting responsibility for their actions and inactions in office.

Governor, Senator Diri, stated this on Tuesday when he played host to the leadership of Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) in Government House, Yenagoa.

He said it was practically impossible to effectively tackle and surmount the security and socioeconomic challenges facing the country, if its leaders refuse to admit their mistakes and take necessary steps to correct them.

The Governor, represented by his Deputy,  Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, insisted that as long as  leaders, especially at the federal level, refuse to accept that the is experiencing serious crisis, the nation would make no progress.

He also expressed displeasure at what he refers to as overwhelming emphasis on materialistic pursuit by most churches to the detriment of the untainted gospel of Jesus Christ for the salvation of mankind.

According to him, the inability of the clergy to speak truth to government, encourages the political class in the country to lead the people with disrespect for rule of law, justice and brazen corruption.

Governor Diri urged the church to engage itself in critical self-examination and live up to expectation by preaching love and the need for both leaders and the governed to show the fear of God in all their dealings.


The State helmsman,  who highlighted some of the economic and security woes facing the country, however, urged Nigerians not to despair but join forces with the Peoples Democratic Party to unseat the ruling All Progressive Congress in 2023.

He equally appealed to the visiting clergy and the Christian community not to relent in their prayers for the country to overcome it's current woes.

Governor Diri said having seen the huge difference between the PDP and the ruling party, it was incumbent on them to mobilize their members to make the right leadership choice in the 2023 general elections.

Earlier, President of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Most Reverend Benebo Fubara-Manuel, commended the Prosperity Government for its focused leadership in the state and the support it is giving to the Church.


Reverend  Fubara-Manuel said they were in the state for a national meeting and to explore areas of cooperation with government to further promote the prevailing inter-religious dialogue and cooperation in the state.

Christmas: Gov. Diri Tasks Bayelsans On Love, Unity.

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has urged indigenes of the state, and residents alike, to embrace the spirit of love that Christmas exemplifies in their dealings with each other. He also called for unity, harmony and reconciliation among people of the state. Governor Diri gave the charge in his 2021 Christmas message released by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, on Thursday. While wishing all believers a merry Christmas, the governor said his administration would continue to work for the people and foster love and unity based on its shared vision for the prosperity of all.
