Bayelsa Govt. assures business owners, investors of improved security. …..charges AITEO to redouble efforts in containing oil spill in Nembe LGA. As Gov. Diri sets up assessment C'ttee

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has assured business owners and investors in the state of improved security to enable them carry out their  legitimate business activities ad well as invest in the state as government was making determined efforts to stem the tide of insecurity.

The governor, represented by his Deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, gave the assurance at the 57th State Executive Council meeting in Government House, Yenagoa.

Governor Diri, who said  insecurity was not peculiar to the State alone, noted that Bayelsa is comparatively one of the peaceful  in the country and the safest in the Niger Delta region.

While stressing that the security of lives and properties  is a collective efforts of all Bayelsans, the  State helmsman hinted that government was taking necessary steps to restructure the security architecture of the state.

His words His Words: "I want to use this opportunity to encourage our brothers, who are in the state doing business, especially Igbo traders. Government is taking every necessary step in the right direction to recalibrate our security architecture.”

"The most important thing is to identify the problem and admit that you have a problem. As a government, we have admitted that we have a security problem and we are taking steps to address it.”

“The Commissioner of Police has reeled out some of the measures we have taken, and more measures would be taken as approved by the governor."

The governor used the medium to call on Aiteo Group to redouble its efforts towards containing the oil spill that occurred at its facility in the Nembe local government area of the state.

Governor Diri, who expressed concern over the spillage of crude oil and its attendant effects on the environment, urged Aiteo to take urgent steps at initiating remediation efforts towards ensuring that the spill at its facility is brought under control.

The state chief executive also said that government would embark on an on-the-spot assessment at the spill site to assess the extent of damage caused by the spill.

To this end, he directed the Commissioner for Environment, his Mineral Resources counterpart,  the Deputy Chief of Staff, Deputy Governor's office; the Commissioner for Information, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security One as well as the Attorney General of the state and Commissioner for Justice to visit the site. 

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the meeting, the deputy governor dispelled rumor making the rounds that the governor is out on a jamboree, insisting that the governor's trip is to woo investors to the state in the interest of the people. 

According to Ewhrudjakpo, what makes a local economy vibrant is the inflow of external investments, stating that the erroneous impression that the governor was on a jamboree was baseless.
