Bayelsa: Gender Team Marks 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence …As Chairman, Barrister Ogbise lauds Gov. Diri for support





Bayelsa State Chairman, Gender Response Initiative Team(GRIT), Barrister Dise Sheila Ogbise says the body has been successful in the fight against gender -based violence in the State. 


Barrister Ogbise, in a message to mark this year's 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence on the elimination of violence against women and girls, expressed appreciation to Governor Douye Diri for his foresight in inaugurating the body and his continuous support.


While stressing that the governor’s support was instrumental to the achievements of GRIT, the President of Do-foundation also lauded him for creating the enabling environment for GRIT in place to promptly tackle sexual and gender -based violence.


Her words, “as we commemorate this year's sixteen days of Activism,  it is important that we remind ourselves that there are more bridges to cross.The efforts of organizations through collaboration and partnership have positively significantly impacted on the fight against Gender Based Violence and we should continue with the spirit of such togetherness."


Barrister Ogbise, who said that despite  the achievements of GRIT,  a lot still needed to be done to tackle the issue of gender based violence, called for collaboration with other groups and individuals to reduce the menace to the lowest ebb. 


According the chairman, on a daily basis her office is inundated with complaints ranging from sexual to physical abuse and assured that her team will continue to respond swiftly to issues of gender based violence in the state.  


Barrister Ogbise advised Bayelsans to continue to speak up against gender based violence and take other conscious steps to create a safer state and society.


"As we commorate this year's 16 Days of activism for the elimination of violence against women and girls with the theme 'Orange the World: End Violence against Women now! Let's raise our voices louder as we fasten our seatbelts to demand for a safer and better society for women from all forms of violence which includes violence against women in politics, at workplace and in all spheres of their daily lives", Ogbise said.


The chairman of GRIT, assured that the gender Response Initiative  Team is committed to bringing to bare the prosperity agenda of the State Government on gender related issues.

Christmas: Gov. Diri Tasks Bayelsans On Love, Unity.

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has urged indigenes of the state, and residents alike, to embrace the spirit of love that Christmas exemplifies in their dealings with each other. He also called for unity, harmony and reconciliation among people of the state.
