2021 PDP National Convention: Ayu emerges new PDP chairman…Anyanwu as National Secretary, Woyengikuro as National Financial Secretary

A former Senate President, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, from Benue state, North Central Nigeria has emerged the People's Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman-Elect. Ayu was declared winner after he polled 3, 426 delegates votes to affirm his election despite being a consensus candidate at the party’s convention in Abuja.   The outcome of the election was announced in the early hours of Sunday. Similarly, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, from Southeast Nigeria has emerged winner for the position of the National Secretary of the party. 18 out of the 21 National offices were unopposed while 3 offices of Deputy National Chairmen, South, National Deputy Chairman, North and National Youth Leader were contested. FG launches made in Nigeria Barites, Set to ban importation

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development on Thursday launched made in Nigeria Barites that has met specifications for use in the oil and gas industry, mostly in drilling operations. The Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Simbi Kesiye Wabote, who performed the launch in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in company with the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite, Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uche Sampson Ogah, said that imported barites would no longer be allowed for use by the Nigerian oil and gas industry from 2022 . Bayelsa: Abducted expatriate rescued

Report reaching Bayelsa Daily Online desk has it that a combined team of security agents have rescued an expatriate who was abducted from a construction site in Bayelsa State.  According to investigations, the kidnappers invaded the construction site at Igbedi/Amassoma Road in Sagbama Local Government Area in a bid to abduct expatriates working on the site. Security operatives on guard tried to repel the attack, killing one of the kidnappers in the process. The repelled attack notwithstanding, the kidnappers were able to abduct one of the expatriates and whisked him away through the creek  The Joint Task Force (JTF), the Army, the Navy and the Department of State Security (DSS) were reportedly alerted of the incident and immediately swung into action. The combined team were able to track the kidnappers to the Ogoinbiri waterways where they engaged them in a gun battle that lasted several minutes. Entertainment: Actress Omoni Oboli, husband celebrate 21st marriage anniversary.

  Nollywood actress and director, Omoni Oboli, has on Thursday celebrated her husband, Nnamdi, on their 21st wedding anniversary.   The actress took to her verified Instagram page to announce the good news and reaffirm her love to her husband.   Sharing a picture of herself and her husband, the actress wrote, “Do you know what today is? It’s our anniversary. 21 years don waka. We still dey carry go, nobody waka, nobody go solo! Baba God na your grace. NNPC: $3.097bn Investment Opportunities Exist in Condensate Refineries.

  The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has said investment opportunities worth nearly $3.097 billion currently exist in the country’s condensate refineries’ space.    Group Managing Director of NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari, stated this yesterday in Lagos in his keynote address at the 15th Oil Trading and Logistics (OTL) Africa Downstream Week.   Kyari said between $1.6 billion and $2.7 billion were required by the corporation to improve the supply and distribution of petroleum products, revamp Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) infrastructure, and build Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) plants in the country.   Kyari, who was represented at the event by the Group Executive Director, Downstream, NNPC, Mr. Adetunji Adeyemi, projected that Nigeria’s petroleum product demand would grow to 17.3 million metric tons by 2025, up from the 15.1 million MT in 2020.   The theme of the conference was, “Downstream in Transition: Getting Set.”   Kyari added that the country would need a refining capac

Retirees: 20 States shun contributory pension scheme.

Bayelsa Daily online gathered that no fewer than 20 states have yet to commence the payment of pensions to retirees after opting to join the Contributory Pension Scheme.   The CPS was established by the Pension Reform Act, 2004 to provide a sustainable system of pension payment and correct abnormalities in the pay-as-you-go Defined Pension Scheme under which retirees suffered awaiting their stipends, while many died without getting their entitlements.   Industry stakeholders are worried that the non-payment of pensions, which characterised the old scheme, has begun to affect the CPS.   A report by the National Pension Commission titled, ‘Level of implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme by states as of June 2021’, which was obtained on Thursday, showed that 25 states had enacted laws to join the scheme.   The states include Lagos, Osun, Kaduna, Delta, Ekiti, Ondo, Edo, Benue, Kebbi, Niger, Rivers, Ogun, Bayelsa, Kogi, Anambra, Abia, Taraba and Imo.   Others are Sokoto, Adamawa

Uncertainty reigns as some delegates arrive in Abuja for PDP convention

News reaching Bayelsa Daily online desk says, some of the 3,600 delegates expected for the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party have started arriving in Abuja, the nation’s capital.   It learnt that the Eagle Square, venue of the event, on Thursday, the PDP flag had been hoisted in the venue, while banners and decorations adorned the area. Buhari approves N21bn for-14 bed presidential clinic-Perm Sec

President Muhammadu Buhari, had approved the construction and equipping of a 14-bed space Presidential Clinic at a cost of N21bn   The   Permanent   Secretary,  Tijani stated this when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, to present his 2022 budget proposal for consideration, explainning that the construction firm, Messrs Julius Berger Nigeria, construct the VIP clinic.   He said the physical construction would start on November 1, 2021 and would be inaugurated on December 31, 2022.   The Permanent Secretary explained that the Presidential Clinic would contain 14-bed facilities with a total area of 2,700 square metres.   He added that there would be an underground, first floor, two operating theatres, two executive suites, two VIP wards, two Isolation wards and a six-bed isolation area in the building.   He further explained that there would be laboratory, healing garden, pharmacy, and X-ray facility in the clinic.
